When you are instructing your students, bear in mind that all humans look to avoid pain and search for pleasure.
The second point to remember is that they are going to make more effort to avoid pain rather than get pleasure. So every now and then, it is important to give them options because an option will bear less pain for them.
As an example, when it is time for groups to report to the class, you could say to them: “Would you like to report now or would you like to report in 5 minutes?”
The presupposition here is that they will have to report no matter what but they have two choices of time which invites them to take control and thus reduce stress.
- Give them options now and then to relieve the stressful moment of putting themselves out there
